Public Installation of WuZixiong Glass Art Museum Taizhou, China
Air Giants are two large-scale outdoor art installations created for the 2024 Lantern Festival and the 20th anniversary of the opening of the new site of Wu Zixiong Glass Art Museum, where the works are transformed into light installations at night. The shape of the two installations, Air Giant-1 and Air Giant-2, are derived from the kite installations Zephyrus and Mur, which I realised in Normandy in collaboration with the French artist and doctor Etienne Veyres. In the creation of these works, I introduced the language of the square human figure, which is the use of large squares to create a human silhouette that pushes the viewer to look at their own emotions and think about their connection to their surroundings. The two large-scale installations also challenged the traditional form of the Lantern Festival lanterns, after what I had created with the kite works. In addition, the movement and interaction of the sculptures have been redesigned to better reflect the celebratory atmosphere, with the new form of a square figure climbing up the wall of the museum, followed by another inviting people to enter the museum, in both red and blue colours, also representing the Year of the Dragon.
Air Giant I and Il are displayed as permanent sculptures at the entrance to the Museum and will continue to be updated as a long-term project. The interior light installation is illuminated at night from 17:00 to 24:00.
